LANSING, July 19, 2006 - Move your family into the wellness fast lane at the Family Health Centers of Blue Care Network's "Highway to Health" open house on Saturday, July 29. The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Creyts Road Family Health Center, 1401 S. Creyts Road (just south of I-496) in Lansing.

Families can save time by getting kids' sports physicals, along with adult cholesterol and glucose screenings, at the open house. There will also be expert advice for all ages on nutrition, cooking, exercise, stress reduction and dental health. A guest appearance by Lansing Lugnuts mascot Big Lug will encourage families en route to a healthy lifestyle.

Low-cost sports physicals for student athletes will be available for $20 for non-BCN members, while BCN members are responsible for their usual copayments. Although walk-ins are welcome, appointments are encouraged and can be made by phoning 517-322-4000.

Screenings for fasting cholesterol, fasting glucose and prostate — a $50 value — will be available for only $5. Pharmacists will be available to answer questions about medications or drug interactions.

Free drawings for door prizes will feature a stationary bike, a free teeth whitening and a free teeth cleaning for a family of five. The center will also provide free healthy snacks in grab-and-go bags.

In addition to the Creyts Road Health Center, Blue Care Network owns and operates the Lake Lansing Family Health Center, 1525 W. Lake Lansing Road (just east of U.S. 127) in East Lansing. The centers provide care to the entire family with physicians and staff who specialize in family practice, internal medicine and pediatrics. People do not have to be Blue Care Network members to receive care at the centers. The centers welcome new patients and accept most insurance plans.
