SOUTHFIELD, May 20, 2009 - Blue Care Network, Michigan's leading HMO, is launching a new product — OneBluesm — to compete with other HMO companies offering coverage to the growing number of individual consumers seeking their own health care coverage in Michigan.

OneBlue is an evolution of a BCN product designed previously for Michigan autoworkers transitioning from their group coverage that will now be offered to all Michigan residents who buy their own health care coverage.

Blue Care Network is expanding OneBlue in June to join a growing number of Michigan health care products for purchase by individuals under age 65. Several Michigan HMO companies recently have entered or expanded their product offerings in Michigan's individual insurance market, which is growing in numbers as more individuals seek coverage.

"If you are seeking an HMO individual product in Michigan, OneBlue offers important items on your health coverage checklist," said Kevin Klobucar, BCN vice president for products and marketing. "OneBlue is designed to be very competitive with products offered by other HMO companies and gives consumers another option to choose in the marketplace."

OneBlue is a medical plan for individuals and families that includes preventive, routine, urgent and emergency care coverage. The individual purchaser can choose a primary care physician who provides and coordinates their health care from one of the largest primary care physician networks in the state — numbering more than 4,300 Michigan primary care physicians. The network also includes 10,200 specialists and 116 hospitals in the state.

The product covers an annual medical exam and mammography, and up to $2,500 in yearly prescription drug coverage. Maternity delivery is covered at 100 percent after a deductible is met. An optional dental benefit plan may be purchased with OneBlue.

Since 2000, BCN has consistently received Excellent Accreditation from the National Committee for Quality Assurance. This rating reflects how BCN focuses on improving member health. BCN's BlueHealthConnection program includes nurse health coaches, Web-based wellness information and an online health assessment.

Interested individuals can visit bcbsm.com/myblue, print and fill out the OneBlue application and submit it to BCN. Individuals also can call 877-4MY-BLUE (877-469-2583) to request an application or for more detailed information, or contact a Blues-contracted agent.

Blue Care Network of Michigan and its subsidiaries have more than 635,000 members. Blue Care Network features award-winning disease management programs and the largest HMO network of physicians and hospitals in the state, with more than 4,300 primary care physicians, 10,200 specialists and 116 hospitals. Blue Care Network, a nonprofit corporation, is the affiliated HMO of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and an independent licensee of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association.
