BCBSM Tower Facility with heart display

DETROIT, Feb. 2, 2009 - Throughout the month of February two giant heart-shaped displays will light up the Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan headquarters located in downtown Detroit. The display was created to show the Blues support for American Heart Month and the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day on Feb. 6.

The 12-story-high display will light up both sides of the building located on East Lafayette near I-375 in the “heart” of downtown Detroit.

The National Wear Red Day is part of the AHA’s Go Red for Women campaign that seeks to empower women of all ages to live healthier, longer lives by taking proper care of their hearts throughout the years.

“Heart disease is the number one cause of death among American women. The Blues awareness campaign serves as a reminder that women must be aware of the risks associated with this deadly disease,” says Equilla Wainwright, vice president of Diversity and Community Responsibility.

By joining the Go Red for Women campaign, women can receive a red dress sticker symbolizing heart health awareness and also participate in the “Choose to Move” program. Learn more by calling 888-MY-HEART (888-694-3278) or visiting goredforwomen.org.
