Pink ribbon light displays on Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's building show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

DETROIT, October 3, 2008 - Two giant pink ribbon light displays will illuminate Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan's 21-story downtown Detroit headquarters building throughout October to commemorate National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and encourage women to take regular mammograms.

The 11-story high pink ribbons adorn both the north and south sides of the Blues' headquarters building on East Lafayette near I-375 in downtown Detroit.

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan has a proud tradition of spotlighting important causes and special events with light displays, which are visible at dusk. Every February, the building displays a red heart to support National Heart Month and encourage prevention of heart disease, the single greatest cause of death in the United States.

Most recently, Blue Cross affirmed its commitment to Detroit with a symbolic 'D' on the north side of the building and a red heart light display on the south side.

The pink ribbons will remain until November, when Blue Cross will continue a 30-year tradition and install a giant holiday tree in green lights for the months of November and December.
