SOUTHFIELD, September 30, 2008 - Blue Care Network of Michigan received Excellent Accreditation status for its commercial business from the National Committee for Quality Assurance, a nationally recognized, independent and not-for-profit organization that measures the quality of America’s health care and health plans. BCN has earned Excellent Accreditation status since 2000.
BCN received four stars — the highest level of accreditation awarded — in all five categories listed on NCQA’s Health Plan Report Card. The categories are Access and Service, Qualified Providers, Staying Healthy, Getting Better and Living with Illness.
“This Excellent Accreditation from the NCQA validates BCN’s unwavering dedication to delivering exceptional services and optimizing our members’ health,” said Jeanne Carlson, BCN president and CEO. “The achievement is a testament to the outstanding efforts of BCN employees and our network physicians.”
BCN’s Excellent Accreditation status is based on the plan’s 2007 HEDIS®1 and CAHPS®2 scores and the NCQA’s July onsite survey that focused on clinical and administrative service performance improvement as well as member and physician satisfaction. HEDIS, the Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set, measures how many members are getting certain medical procedures such as vaccinations, prenatal care and mammograms. CAHPS, the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems, evaluates member satisfaction with the plan and its doctors.
BCN’s Medicare Advantage plan, BCN AdvantageSM, and its Medicaid plan, BlueCaid, also received Excellent Accreditation status. The company’s disease management program received Patient and Practitioner Oriented Accreditation – Full, the highest level of accreditation. The diseases accredited were asthma, congestive heart failure, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and COPD.
Blue Care Network of Michigan and its subsidiaries have more than 650,000 members.
