Getting vaccinated early is important because the flu is highly contagious and spreads rapidly. Getting the shot before the flu season is in full force gives the body a chance to protect itself.

Flu viruses change every year. Last year's vaccine may not protect you from this year's viruses because vaccines lose some of their effectiveness after six months. A flu shot taken now will last you through the peak of this year’s flu season, November through April.
The Centers for Disease Control recommends annual influenza vaccinations for everyone age 6 months or older. The American Lung Association has found that the vaccine is even safe for asthma patients.
Flu shots are widely available. Be sure to tell your primary care physician if you receive a flu shot from another source.
