Starting January 1, 2011, prescriptions for members will be filled for up to a 30-day supply for one copayment. Previously the prescription could be filled for up to a 34-day supply. The change aligns with the actual days of most months, with physician prescribing habits and with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan practice.
BlueCaid® and BCN AdvantageSM members are not affected by this change.
Also, the 90-day supply program is not affected by this change. Members can still get up to a 90-day supply of most medicines for two copayments from most contracted retail pharmacies. An initial 30-day prescription must first be filled for brand-name medicines.
Specialty drugs are limited to a 30-day fill for Blue Care Network commercial members. Effective January 1, 2011, the first fill of a select number of highly potent specialty drugs may be limited to a 15-day supply. If the member is able tolerate the drug, he or she can then go back to the pharmacy to receive the rest of the 15-day supply. Members who have filled prescriptions for at least a 15-day supply of these drugs in the past 180 days can continue to receive a full 30-day supply all at once.
The Jan. 1 change applies only to these oral oncology drugs:
