BCN Advantage HMO has contracts with pharmacies that equal or exceed CMS requirements for pharmacy access in your area.

Where to fill your prescriptions

All BCN Advantage Option 2 and Option 3 members can fill their prescriptions:

You may go to any of these types of pharmacies to receive your covered prescription drugs. You can receive up to a 90-day supply of your maintenance medication through either our mail order service or through most retail pharmacies in the BCN Advantage network. You will find both preferred and non-preferred pharmacies in our BCN Advantage Pharmacy Directory.

How do I get my prescription filled from a retail pharmacy?

To fill a prescription at a BCN Advantage network retail pharmacy, you must show your BCN Advantage member ID card. If you do not have your ID card with you when you fill your prescription, you may have to pay the full cost of the prescription (rather than paying just your copayment). If this happens, you can ask us to reimburse you for our share of the cost by submitting a claim to us. To find out how to submit a claim, look in your Evidence of Coverage or call Customer Service.

Out-of-network coverage

If you choose to go to an out-of-network pharmacy, you will pay more out-of-pocket. Please see your Evidence of Coverage for details.

How do I fill a prescription through the BCN Advantage mail order pharmacy service?

To get order forms and information about filling your prescriptions by mail, please call us. You can also download a mail order form. Please note that you must use a BCN Advantage mail order vendor (Walgreens or Medco) if you want to use mail order services. Prescription drugs that you get through any other mail order service are not covered.

You can use the BCN Advantage mail order service to fill prescriptions for what we call “maintenance drugs.” These are drugs that you take on a regular basis, for a chronic or long-term medical condition.

Our preferred mail order pharmacies, Walgreens and Medco, offer up to a 90-day supply of maintenance medications for 2½ times your usual copayment. To ensure that you don’t run out of your medications when using our mail order prescription drug service, please order at least two weeks before your prescription runs out. You can find your refill date on the prescription label and on the refill slip that comes with every order. If you don’t have enough medication, ask your doctor to give you a second prescription for a 30-day supply, and fill it at a local retail network pharmacy while you wait for your mail order supply to arrive.

You can obtain your refills by mailing the order form to Walgreens or Medco. If you use Walgreens, you can also call 800-489-2197, TTY users should call 800-925-0178. The Walgreens automated phone system is available 24/7, as is the Web site, WalgreensMail.com. You can order refills, check account balances, make payments, and check order status through the IVR and Web site at anytime, day or night. Over 530 Customer Care Professionals are accessible by phone toll free, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., eastern time—365 days a year. A pharmacist is available 24/7 for emergency member or physician consultation.

If you use Medco, call 800-229-0832, TTY users should call 800-759-1089, 24 hours a day, seven days a week (except Thanksgiving and Christmas), or visit medco.com. Generally, it takes five days to process your order and ship it to you. However, sometimes your mail order may be delayed. If your mail order is delayed, please call Medco or Walgreens directly.

You are not required to use mail-order prescription drug services to obtain an extended supply of mail-order medications. Instead, you have the option of using a Preferred 90-day Retail Pharmacy or a Standard 90-day Retail Pharmacy in the BCN Advantage network to obtain a maintenance supply of medications. Some of these retail pharmacies may agree to accept the mail-order cost-sharing amount for an extended supply of mail-order medications, which may result in no out-of-pocket payment difference to you. Other retail pharmacies may not agree to accept the mail-order cost-sharing amounts for an extended supply of mail-order medications. In this case, you will be responsible for the difference in price.
