Obesity is the second leading cause of premature death in the United States. More than half of all Americans are either overweight or obese, with obesity affecting close to 59 million adults.
In Michigan, the percentage of overweight adults has been steadily increasing in recent years. Michigan now reports the seventh highest level of obese adults in the nation and Detroit ranks number one on the list of America’s fattest cities. Blue Care Network and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan are working with Michigan communities to reduce health problems associated with being overweight by promoting physical activity and nutrition.
